It's hard to believe that today just happened... but it did! I just sold MY HOUSE!
This was the first time ever that I have ever sold my own personal home.
When I bought my home 9 years ago I was newly divorced, living with my mother, and working as a social worker. Living on a social worker's salary, it was very hard to save enough money to save up enough money to buy a house, let alone put down a sizable downpayment. Being the incredible mother that mine is, she came with the idea of charging me “rent” to live with her, and then she saved that money for me to be able to put down a downpayment!
This extra support from my mother was so important, as that time in my life was a really hard time. Being newly divorced, raising a child alone, and going through therapy for PTSD I felt scared, alone, inadequate and overwhelmed. I was also struggling with a job that didn’t value me in treatment or pay.
My First Home
Finally, after saving for quite a while, Knowles came along. (Knowles is the endearing name I decided to call my first home!)
I was nervous to purchase my first home alone and many people discouraged me from doing it alone, but I knew it was right. I wanted a home for my child that could be a safe place that was all ours. I wanted a space that Gabe and I could both grow in and I definitely didn't want to get stuck in the rent cycle again.
Knowles has been so good to me. Gabe and I will cry and move through what feels like a loss over selling her, but it's time for us to pursue new adventures. She was good to us and we were good to her. She will always hold a place in my heart.
I put so much love into Knowles and am so excited for the new owners that took possession today!
Our New Chapter
As I grew my career and changed our lives, Knowles grew and changed too. She got new paint, new windows, and the cutest makeover inside. Right before she sold, she was featured on Stylish Detroit!
I will be forever grateful for Knowles. I went from barely able to save for a down payment, to now using the proceeds from Knowles for a new house, paid off all of my student loans and invested in growing my business.
My life is forever better because of Knowles.
Was it easy? No!
